The old Kuala Lumpur was a typical "pioneer" town. Its inhabitants, the Chinese congregated around Market Square - the town's main commercial centre. As the population grew and the town expanded, it was renamed Chinatown. It is now called Petaling Street, it is a place where you find a selection of Chinese retaurants and food stalls. It is a great place to enjoy local culture of grab a bite from the street vendors or do some bargain hunting when the night basar is in full swing.

KL Tower KL Tower

This 421-metre telecommunication cum observation tower was constructed with utmost care being paid to the environment in particular to evade damaging the huge 110-year Jelutong tree as the KL Tower was constructed in one of the oldest forest reserve in the country and the only remaining topical rainforest in the heart of the city that was gazettted in 1906.

National Monument National Monument

Sultan Abdul Samad Building Heritage Old Town

The Sultan Abdul Samad Building was originally known as "The New Government Offices". It is one of the oldest buildings in KL City that was built by the british. It was to be the largest building of its day, constructed entirely of brick and what appears to be cream stone is actually plaster covered brick. The construction began in 1894. Today it is a heritage building.

Central Market Central Market

Central market was initially a gambling premise belonging to Yap Ah Loy (Chinese Kapitan). Sir Frank Swettenham described it as a very insecure shed and wished to have it rebuilt. Yap Ah Loy built it with bricks pillars and galvanised iron. The structure was completed in 1883 and wa sused as a wet market in 1888. The building underwent 4 expansions from 1883 - 1933. Central Market boasts of distinguished features of 1930s Art Deco style building. It reopened in 1986 after extensive refurbishment and has become the largest Malaysian arts and craft centre, displaying a wide variety of Malaysian Arts and Handicrafts, Batek, Antiques and attractive souvenirs. It has since been classified as a Heritage Site by the Malaysian Heritage Society.

The Petronas Twin Towers were once the tallest buildings at a height of 452 meter. The 88 floors are constructed largely of reinforced concrete, with steel and glass facade designed to resemble motifs found in Islamic Architecture. The tower feature a skybridge at the 41st level and 42nd level, this bridge is the highest 2-story bridge in the world. The Twin Tower is located in the KLCC Park which spans 100 acres with jogging and walking paths. It also has a Symphony Lake Fountain and a massive tropical garden.
